Our Focus
Altor currently has two products in clinical development. Our lead product for cancer, ALT-801, a T-cell receptor-targeted immunotherapeutic for cancer, concluded a Phase I/IIa clinical trial in patients with metastatic malignancies in 2009. A Phase II trial for ALT-801 in combination with cisplatin enrolling started patients in metastatic melanoma in 1Q-2010. A second Phase II trial for ALT-801 in combination with gemcitabine and cisplatin is being initiated for patients with advanced or metastatic urothelial cancer.
A second product, a monoclonal antibody-based Tissue Factor antagonist referred to as ALT-836, is in a second multi-center Phase II trial for treatment of patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and Acute Lung Injury, a life-threatening, systemic inflammatory disease. A Phase I clinical trial for ALT-836 in combination with gemcitabine has begun treating patients with solid tumors. (more on the clinical trials...)
Numerous product candidates that have completed proof-of-principle studies in animal models are in pre-clinical development for treatment of cancer, infectious, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
Overview and History
Altor was formed in 2002 by Hing C. Wong, Ph.D., as a spin-off from Sunol Molecular Corporation (“Sunol”), and is backed by leading venture capital funds, including Sanderling Ventures and the Florida Growth Fund. The Company has three proprietary technology platforms: the STAR™ platform, Tissue Factor antagonist platform, and IL-15 scaffold technology.
The STAR™ platform has been in development for over fifteen years. Drs. Wong and Peter Rhode, Ph.D., Vice President of Research and Development, began developing the STAR™ platform while at Baxter Healthcare and continued its development at Sunol. Altor’s STAR™ technology is founded on a unique platform of proprietary technologies and skills that facilitate the rapid manipulation and development of soluble T-cell receptors (“TCR”) and major histocompatibility complex molecules (“MHC”). Altor employs this platform to improve the safety and efficacy of existing therapeutic drugs. The Company believes that its clinical development strategy of evaluating these drugs in their approved indications will minimize risk and facilitate rapid progress in clinical trials. The Company has secured its position with both a strong intellectual property portfolio and a pipeline of promising drug candidates. A team with extensive experience and discipline in corporate finance, research and discovery, and product development, as well as regulatory and clinical affairs manages Altor.
